bye bye bushwick

whew! it’s been a while. i’ve been a busy bee with spring 2011 and MOVING! finally, out of bushwick. never have to take this walk under the tracks again!

i’m getting a serious quality of life step up, moving to this neighborhood:

well that doesn’t really look like a neighborhood but it’s a park within the neighborhood. in fort greene! there’s trees here. there are some things that i’ll miss about bushwick though like this mural on my walk to the train:

look at those facial expressions! especially the guy getting kicked.

the view from the above ground train is pretty good too

my studio had a balcony

and an elevator.

but! bushwick is dirty! full of trash! i certainly won’t miss the grime factor.

which is why it’s time to get out!

hey! here’s an outdoor mannequin designed by calvin klein! (not in bushwick)

and her butt:

back to bushwick: will and i helped our fried jeff make puppets for a music video

here’s my crushed velvet puppet:

googly eyes really make the man

good times had by all

here’s the link to the final result!

i had a sale! it was fun! here’s whitney and i in front of all the stuff:

jamie really wanted huck to wear sunglasses

almost, jamie.

sale was a success!

another success story! my new studio is going to be blue:

and awesome, presumably. moving day sunday! fort greene here i come!

stay tuned for news of my fall collection’s arrival. it’s coming real real soon!

working on spring 2011 has been tiring!

and a mess!

i got to take some breaks though

will and i went to a fader party where wavves played. i thought i wasn’t a fan but they actually put on a pretty good live show

will kept complaining that they sounded exactly like jay reatard and then we found out the bassist and drummer used to be in jay reatard’s band!

the bassist had really good hair

i was all dusen dusen’d out and will was all cute in the blacklight

i met the girls from danika, a jewelry line from the bronx

there were talks of a collabo

and lazer cutting wood into shapes

this is a painting done by steph terao of would-be rommates if their apartment was not condemned forever. 3/4 of the roommates w/painting:

pretty spot on!!! i wish mark was there too because the resemblance is uncanny

impressive setlist eh?

it was a covers party and it was fun!

vivian girls surprise played! that was cool! they didn’t do any covers though.

kendra and cyrus were both sporting some dusendusen

america’s bithday has begun! nothing says patriotism like boiling little animals

and barbeque

and dogs!

happy independence day mes amis!

ahhh, nothing like a relaxing day of sewing at the beach

coney on a weekday: much more pleasant than coney on the weekend

this is my view:

more on that to come. but it did involve making a t shirt into a bikini, which may not be the best idea if you want a functional bathing suit.

and here it is! on the lovely roz

famous class had a show for northside

we saw tough nuckles

marko dj’ed

will was weird and christine got a haircut!

the darlings played too!

mmmmmm tacos

we went to the opening of the hole, a new gallery in soho opened by ex-deitch people

look how crowded! the show was called “not quite open for business” and all the pieces in the show were unfinished

these francine spiegel paintings are my favorite

will’s fingers

this is the wall of the bookstore within the gallery. i’m in the black and white stripe and will is in the maroon plaid

all good nights end with (not so) good jumping pictures. here’s will and rachel attempting one:

here’s a little preview of what to expect

in and out of the grind

last week i went to the beach in savannah georgia! pleasant break from the grind!

there was all sorts of weird sea life hanging out like this dead jellyfish

i also got to see a ton of sharks (both in the wild and on a fishing hook) and dolphins! no pictures though.

my family took a boat trip one day and it was fun! here’s my bro and his gf juliana

intro bro 2

this is when it stops being fun

we ended up in shallow water while the tide was going out

and we got stuck.

we had to wait 6 hours for the tide to come back in. we passed the time by talking about serial killers and trying to throw peanut shells into a puddle. here’s the aftermath:

eventually we made it back and i took a trip to the house my mom grew up in. the bathroom has this awesome 60’s floral wallpaper. the flowers are embroidered!

each bedroom has a color theme. my mom’s room: green

my grandmother saved all her old clothes so i got to snag some on my way out. how cool were the 60’s??

back to reality: dave is better at ping pong than me

isn’t savannah pretty?

back to real reality: fall 2010 is approaching! back to the grind! acid wash that denim!

black acid backpacks coming soon!

this weekend i made a quick stop at the brian chippendale opening at cinders. here’s what i saw!

(the next one’s a close up)

the rest of my pics didn’t turn out very well. it’s worth checking out!

it was molly’s birthday on saturday!

we sat on a roof in the west village

and ate some snacks

considering how much i like burgers you’d think i could grill a bun successfully. not so!

christine brought this guy

i went to check out the american high style exhibit at the brooklyn museum. lots of cool stuff! i’m way into this schiapparelli dress. love the print!

here’s a necklace of hers that reminds me of those gross lollipops you can get with bugs in them

schiapparelli was BFFs with some of the dudes from the surrealist movement, most notably with salvador dali. they collaborated on a bunch of projects, but they didn’t have any of them at the museum . here are some images pulled off the internet of pieces they did together. pretty crazy for the 1930s!!

the skeleton dress reminds me of this comme des garcons collection with the raised hands/flowers/bows all over the body.

these were time capsule pieces made in the early 60s predicting style in the early 70s. pretty close!  sans the hat. i forgot the name of the designer.

when we saw this one will asked me when 101 dalmatians was made. they’re so cruella! forgot the name of this designer too, but i know she’s a lady and that she’s american. that narrows it down!

then we went to egypt.

i will leave you with a photograph of a baby with a hamburger on it’s face.

i can only assume that this has never happened to me.

fun times!

join me on thursday at charlie and sam for their one year anniversary!

it’s on grand between bedford and berry. they’ll have snacks and drinks and clothes! i’ll be bringing a new dress that i’ve been working on, it’s hand dyed and hand sewn. it’s the very beginning of a collaboration i’m working on with my friend’s record label, famous class.

come on out! i can guarantee cameos by will luckman, molly nathan and michael jordan!!!

james franco, etc

05 2010

today i went over to ps1 in queens for the opening day of their greater new york show

they had some corn leading the way?

the outdoor summer installation is still in progress. what’s it gonna be!!!!

musem looks pretty tame today right?

it wasn’t! popular spot on a sunday

someone took part of a rainforest in brazil and covered it in cement. it was stinky and weird!

but i kinda liked it anyway.

here’s molly in my favorite room in the show. it’s all tape!

the artist’s name is franklin evans. i’m pretty down with these blue stripes

this was some kind of giant wall guitar. i played some jams

we saw a mountain scape carved into a big pile of architectural digests

the real draw though was a performance by terrence koh. he gave a 45 minute lecture w/slides on the past 500 years of art

but it was all in gibberish! at least i assume it was gibberish. i sat 3 feet away from james franco!!!!!!  what was awesome was that james franco was in one of the slides. i bet he felt pretty weird.

i was really surprised to see my friend alec in the performance!  he said his job was to make sure the camera guy didn’t fall over and to paint terrence white. how cool is that!!!

yeah, james franco and i had a great day together.

no more neverland

i spent last sunday moving my boyfriend’s stuff out of a condemned apartment. was it awesome? nope. but on the bright side, i got my hands on some things that i’ve really been missing for the last eight months (his stuff has been locked up since september).

we saved a box of zines from the storage unit and i spent some time going through them today. just in time for (dun dun dun….) designing prints for spring 2011!!! lots to be inspired by in this old box of stuff.

this one below was made by will luckman himself!

i made this one for will before we went to the beach

and that isn’t even the half of it. more and more digging to come. anybody have any ideas for a shark fabric?????
